Three months old

Gwendolyn is three months old today. In her short little life a lot has changed in our family. She didn’t have the sheltered life that Christina had at her age. She has really been places and done things! She is such a trooper.

Gwen is sweet and loving. Everyone tells us what a good little girl she is. She hardly ever cries, she sleeps through the night, and she breastfeeds like a champ. I am so proud of my little girl. I love to see her smile and see her happy.

At three months old, she is more than eleven pounds. She has been gaining weight so wonderfully that you would never even know that she was a preemie. She is hitting all of her milestones and is right on track.

Unfortunately, she was recently diagnosed with moderate hearing loss in both of her ears. It is genetic on Nik’s side of the family. It is at the point where she has trouble hearing conversational speaking and anything softer than that.

For babies with hearing loss, it is very important to get them hearing aids before they are six months old. This is so that their speech will not be delayed. Gwen will be fitted for hearing aids next week. Funding takes forever, but at this rate, she will definitely have them before she is six months old. The doctors are convinced that she will not have any speech delays.

I wish my poor baby didn’t have this hearing problem, but it isn’t the worst thing she could have. I’m sure that she is going to be just fine.
