80 and sunny is my kind of weather

Nik and I are in sunny Orlando, Florida for vacation and the weather is great. We came for Wrestlemania (that was Nik's Christmas present). I think the baby got a kick out of all of the loud cheering, music, and fireworks.

Right now we are just enjoying the weather and hope to go to Universal tomorrow. I haven't gone since I was a kid and Nik has never been there. I am very excited!! I know there will be a lot of rides I can't go on with this little bun in the oven, but that's ok. I'm still really looking forward to it.

I'm not looking forward to going back to 40 degree weather at home :-( But, luckily that isn't for another few days. So for now, I'll pretend that I live where there is summer all year long (and hopefully one day I really will).

I'm thinking . . . boy

I was imagining telling my co-workers that I’m expecting, and these are the exact words I said in my head “So . . . I have some news . . . I’m expecting a baby boy”. I don’t know where the boy part came from, but it sort of just slipped out. So maybe I am having a boy?? It seems that my subconscious thinks so anyway.

My mom also had a dream that she had a grandson and he looked just like Nik’s little brother, so that’s a sign.

Plus, DH is convinced it’s a boy. He said everyone in his family always has a boy first.

Oh yeah, and let’s not forget that the baby was sitting up with it’s arms in the air as if it was flexing . . sort of sounds like a boy, or a really rambunctious girl lol.

Well, we will find out for sure in about 3 weeks!!!

Classic Moments

If you’ve ever been pregnant before, you are probably well aware of the strangers that come up to you making comments about how big you are, how you are about to pop any minute, or how you look like you are carrying twins (when you are not). I’m not nearly far enough along to experience this myself yet, but below are my top ten favorite real life stories about these situations. As annoying and rude they are when you are the person receiving the comments, they certainly are funny to hear/read about!

10. So yesterday after getting off the bus, this man who also goes to my gym says to me "what happened? I thought you go to the gym??" After asking him 3 times to repeat it because I thought this man can't be asking me that, I finally said "umm, baby!" and he said "oh good luck."
Thanks a lot jerk!! I've only gained 10lbs!
---MicheleCM

9. My mother’s boyfriend’s exact words to me were “HOLY SH*T YOU’RE GETTING HUGE!” Lovely huh!
---Keshia

8. This man walks up to us while we're eating and says to me, "You're the most pregnant woman I've seen in a long time."
---triciabell

7. I was picking my daughter up from daycare and one of the teachers asked me when I am due. I told her and her eyes got huge and her jaw dropped. She looked at me, looked at my stomach, and looked back at me. She then said "How on earth are you going to make it that long when you are already so big?"
---rukiddingme79

6. DH & I are making a purchase in Wal-Mart yesterday, chatting inanely amongst ourselves.
Girl Behind Register: "How far along you are?"
me: "5 months"
G B R: "Oh boy, you gonna be sooo big. I thought chew was like 7" (direct translation...) “You ALL belly, oh boy, you in trouble". She spews as she shakes her head and fans her arm around her mid section.
Me: "thanks"
---Teestobe

5. I picked up my daughter from daycare & her provider looked at me and said "God, don't you eat anything?!" I asked what she meant & she said that I was all baby and looked like one of those ladies that gets pregnant but doesn't eat enough because they are worried about their weight.
---Luvmybabes

4. So....on Easter, my cousin and I had a conversation about how you never ask if someone is pregnant no matter how obvious it is. Then her friend arrives and says to me...
Do you have a bun in the oven or did you eat too much cake?
---Lil Kate

3. On friday I was in the back lunch area with all of our staff and I was bending over to write a note. And my boss just flat out says, "Wow Jennifer, you are really getting fat!"
---jenzimmer

2. "Gee you must be having a boy because your nose got bigger"
---Farah24

And my favorite . . .

1. The other day I am sitting at my desk at work, and this woman that I am no more than a passing acquaintance of, comes by and says to me...."How you feeling??" (she knows I’m pregnant) I say, "good thanks"...she says "you are having a girl, right?" I say...."yes"....she proceeds to say, " bet you wonder how I knew that huh?" I say, "well, yeah how DID you know that?" She then tells me that when women are pregnant with girls...the women lose all their beauty .....but don't worry, she says....you'll get it back"
I MEAN, SHE JUST CALLED ME UGLY!!!! RIGHT???? And I was so dumbfounded, that my only response was "oh ok, thanks!" LOL .... MY GOD, people can be so insensitive.

Shopping Spree

With each passing day, it was more than obvious that I had a problem. I was running out of clothes that fit me. Weekday mornings have been so difficult because I spend more and more time trying to find something that I can get over this newly changed body. I realized last week, that I could put it off no longer. It was time for a shopping spree!!

So, I spent half of the day on Saturday with my mom shopping for maternity clothes. I was surprised to find out that I really enjoyed it. I always loved shopping for clothes before, but I wasn’t so into shopping for maternity clothes at first, thinking nothing would fit me, it would all be awkward and just too difficult not knowing what size I’ll be even next week, let alone in two months. But, I was wrong.

I’ll have to post some pictures of me in my new wardrobe with my baby bump when I get a chance.

Make room for baby

Out of nowhere, I suddenly feel extremely overwhelmed at the thought of getting our house ready for this new baby. Seriously, out of nowhere. I knew that we had to clear out the computer room to make it the baby's room, but I didn't think passed that. Now I'm starting to realize that we have a ton of stuff around the house that we don't need and/or don't use and we really need to get it out. We need to have as much space as possible considering we already live in a tiny 1 bedroom condo and we will soon be three people living here, plus two dogs. Yikes!

Then it occurred to me that I still have a ton of partially unwanted stuff in my Dad's garage. I attempted a garage sale last year and although I did get rid of a good amount of stuff, I didn't get rid of it all. My Dad asked if he could just donate or throw away (can't remember which) the rest of the stuff, but honestly I can't bare to part with it. I feel like I need another look, just in case. And then, only then, if I decide that I can part with it, I would rather sell it for next to nothing to someone that wants it, or donate it. I can't even fathom throwing it out!

What I really want to do now is have another garage sale. I have so many things in the house that I don't need, but I really don't want to part with them unless I'm getting something out of it. Because I just know that if I throw it out, then a few months or a few years later I'll end up needing/wanting that item again. This has already happened to me and I think I've been scarred by the experience, lol.

I was trying to get rid of so called "junk" awhile back (maybe two years ago), and I realized I had been holding onto my VCR even though it had been stuffed in a closet somewhere for nearly three years. Well, Nik stepped in and told me that I absolutely had to throw it out because there was no way we would ever need it or use it again. So I did. It went right in the garbage. I think it was easier because he sort of took the lead on that one.

BUT - just a measly four or five months later, and all of a sudden I NEED a VCR. I needed it so that I could take home videos and put them onto my computer for editing and such. I had several family members that requested this service of me, and not only did I feel obligated to do it - but I wanted to do it! I could kick myself for not having that damn VCR!!

I ended up having to buy a new one, and I refuse to let that happen again!! Ok, a little dramatic I know, but I can't help the bond I have with my stuff. :-)

Fun times at the office

The client from my project was in our office on Friday. She had a baby right around the same time I got married, so we have a sort of womanly bond.

Well, she comes over to my desk to say hello and of course I asked about her daughter, not realizing the position it would put me in, until she responded with, "You're next!" (not knowing that I'm already pregnant).

Then she asked if people are already starting to ask me when I'll have children. Well, I could not have possibly have been more obvious because my face turned completely red and I said something dumb like "Well, no because my family already knows I want to have kids right away." I don't know why in the world I said that.

I should have just said no, but I didn't. I'm not good at lying on the spot, and I certainly wasn't about to give up my secret when I have been so good at keeping it from everyone in the office. It's kind of fun walking around the office knowing that I'm growing a person inside of me and no one else realizes it.

So anyway, the client politely went off to her meeting and I was left feeling like an idiot. I'm sure my red face and the sweat that began to form on my forehead didn't give me away at all!

I like a good beer buzz, early in the mornin'

So I was driving to work, listening to "All I wanna do is have some fun" by Sheryl Crow and as usual I smiled when she said "I like a good beer buzz, early in the mornin'". Isn't that a great lyric?

It made me think about the fact that I won't be drinking beer for a long long time. Before pregnancy, I was a beer drinker. You would never find me drinking an alcoholic drink that wasn't beer. In fact, 99% of the time that beer would be Amstel Lite. It was/is my fav. Now I'm looking at a minimum of 6 months without beer and a maximum of 1.5 years (depending on nursing). Well, I guess it will be ok for me to drink a little during those nursing months, but we'll see.

I've done a pretty good job lately of not craving beer. Every once in awhile, like during that song, I remember the crisp taste that I use to love. But then on the other hand, I remember the hung over feeling that I hated so much (which usually followed the next morning). Oddly, being hung over feels almost exactly like morning sickness.

In fact, one day last week, I was definitely either hung over and no one told me they spiked my ice tea, or my morning sickness decided to come back for a short visit.

But oh yes, I do like a good beer buzz early in the mornin' :-)

Today is a great day!

So not only is the weather beautiful today, but I'm also feeling really good today. I feel just like I did before I was pregnant, except now I can actually feel the tightening of the skin on my stomach. I can feel and see my baby bump and it really is getting slightly bigger each day. It puts a smile on my face everytime I turn sideways and look in the mirror.

I was in Atlantic City with my family this passed weekend and my mom was telling practically every stranger we came across, that I was pregnant. It was really cute. Even though you still can't really tell with my shirt on, I was wearing a maternity shirt and it was pretty cool knowing that my little baby bump was under there.

I am also excited today because I am now in my 15th pregnancy week. This is what (I am told) is going on with my baby:

The baby's fingers and toes are already well-defined; eyelids, eyebrows, eyelashes, nails and hair are all formed. Teeth and bones are becoming denser. The baby is currently the size of a Naval Orange, which is about 4 inches and 2.5 ounces. He/she is squirming and wiggling like crazy now and the baby's heart is pumping about 25 quarts of blood per day. At this point the baby might be sucking his or her thumb, yawning, stretching, or making faces. The baby's taste buds have finished forming and he/she will now be able to smell strongly curry, cumin, garlic, onion or other strong smells from the mother's diet. The baby's nervous system is functioning and the reproductive organs and genitalia are fully developed. This week marks a period of rapid growth!

15. Win the lottery

Remember my list, 100 things to do before you die? Well, I just thought of my next item

15. Win the lottery

Nik came home from work the other night and said "Babe, we need to start playing the lottery. I've decided that I don't want to work anymore."

Well that's nice, considering I am the one that will be staying home (when we can afford it) with our children. So, I guess if we don't win the lottery we will be one POOR family!

Luckily, I think he was only half serious.

My Picture Post!

Pregnancy-wise, everything is going well. I'm officially into my second trimester and I'm very relieved about that. I still feel sick at night usually, but I'll take it if it means that I feel like a normal human being during the day.

Since there is nothing all that exciting going on with the baby, I decided to get some more pictures up here. So, here we go . . . (Please note that if you have an old computer, or if it runs slow, you might not be able to view these)

These are pictures from my bachelorette party. We started off at the Hard Rock Restaurant (boys and girls both) and then we split up, the boys went off to a club and the girls went to a karaoke bar.

Here are some pictures from my Bridal Shower weekend. My Aunt was awesome and offered to have it at her house in Virginia, and my cousin Alaina did all of the planning including all of the cooking. They both put together such a lovely event for me and I know my friends and I had a great time. These pictures are mostly from before and after the actual shower.

Here are some pictures from our Rehearsal Dinner.

Our first ultrasound

I know every expecting parent must say this, but oh my goodness, the ultrasound was AMAZING!!! We got to see our little baby moving around like crazy for a good hour while the tech. took measurements and pictures. Our little one certainly is rowdy. He/she was definitely entertaining us even more than we expected.

But other than that, it was just unbelievable to see that little one and know it is growing inside me. All of this time I've known that I was pregnant, gone through the sickness stage, gotten the idea into my head that my little one is coming, but it still doesn't compare to actually seeing it for myself. Plus, we got to hear the heartbeat, which was so cool.

Right before our baby started settling down in there, it decided to do something really silly. It got in a sitting up position, with its legs out and arms up, as if it was flexing its muscles. We all (Nik, me, and the tech) started laughing. Take a look at this . . . . do you see the family resemblance?
