6 Months

On Friday, I will be considered 6 months pregnant. This is confusing because I'll only be 22 weeks along . . you do the math :-) Nik thinks I just can't count, but I swear, this whole counting how far along you are doesn't make sense to me either. I'm not just making it up though, I've read it all over the place.

First off, they considered me two weeks pregnant before the baby was even conceived, so that is weird in itself. But also, I actually have to look at a silly chart to find out how many months pregnant I am. I can't just go by when I got pregnant and how many months it's been since. If I did, I wouldn't even be 5 months pregnant at this point. The official breakdown chart says that from 22 weeks to 26 weeks, I am considered 6 months pregnant. So, as confusing as that is, I'll take it.

The baby is now approximately weighing in at one pound and is about eight inches long. Very exciting! I'm feeling movement all over the place and lots of kicks. Nik even got to feel the baby kick a couple of days ago. Although I have to say, he didn't seem too thrilled. I bet when he can see the kicking by just looking at my stomach, he will be amazed . . . and maybe a little freaked out, lol.

I've got another doctor's appointment today and then next Wednesday is the big day!! I will FINALLY find out the gender of the baby. Please Baby Kalos, don't be shy.

Apparently now I'm fat

Even though my baby belly hasn't been getting much bigger, my husband informs me that my a$$ and thighs are getting really "thick" (his word, not mine).

I know that is suppose to be a compliment (in his mind), but HELLO, it's really code for FAT. Thanks honey, I love it when you call me fat :-) Uuummm, yeah right!

So, why is it that the food I am eating refuses to go to my baby. It's like it only knows how to go to my fat a$$. What is wrong with my body? Is this baby refusing the food I am eating? Or does my butt think that it is more entitled? I don't know, but I don't like it.

The Birthday Girl

So my birthday was this passed Sunday, I turned 27. I am now officially in my late twenties, no longer in my mid-twenties. I freaked out the year I turned 24 when I realized that 24 started the mid-twenties (24-26). Thank goodness I'm not quite so bad this time. I'm sure that little buddle of joy in my belly is helping with that.

My mother-in-law thought I was turning 25 this year. That would have been nice. I always wanted to be a young mom. Ok, yeah, I know 27 is still young . . according to 30 somethings and up. But, not according to me :-( And it's not even a fun number. 27 is so blah. It's not exciting in anyway.

Whether or not other people consider me old though, doesn't really matter. I am resigned to the fact that I am old. I'm already starting to think about plans for my 30 birthday. Three years to me, now sounds as quickly approaching as I once thought a month was. In high school, a whole school year felt like an eternity. But now, I'm already thinking that next summer is around the corner - and it's over a year away!

I've always been a planner, but now I seem to be planning things WAY far in advance. I should calm down right? Enjoy the time I have now . . . while I'm still "young", lol?

I'm sure my children will make me feel younger than ever though . . . . it's either that, or they will wear me out so bad that I will really feel old.

Half way there

I am officially 20 weeks pregnant today, so technically that means I'm half way through my pregnancy. Starting tomorrow, I'll have the bulk of the pregnancy behind me! In fact, the cheese in my refrigerator doesn't even expire until a whole 15 days after my due date. That is just crazy.

The weather is already warming up, which means that there is no escaping the fact that summer is around the corner. And at the end of summer, my baby will make his or her arrival.

Soon, my whole world will be turned upside down. And you know what? I can't wait! I can't wait to hold my child for the first time, to take the baby home for the first time, to introduce him/her to the dogs and see how they get along. I can't wait to show the baby off to my friends and family and officially start a new family between the little one and my husband and I.

Of course, today I'm not thinking about the fact that my days of freedom are numbered. And today I'm not thinking about the pain of delivery, or the exhaustion of having a newborn.

Today I'm thinking about how this is just the beginning. And, I'll hopefully be working on baby number two next summer, and baby number three a few years after that. Wow, it's even hard to believe.

I'm not sure I'm ready to be a real grown up yet, but I'm sure as hell ready to give it a shot.

The secret is out

In a small meeting on Friday, my boss casually mentioned my baby. I guess he figured that by now, I must have let the news out. But I hadn't. I realized it was as good as time as any though, so I began telling some of my coworkers.

Two of the five people I've told so far, said they thought I might be pregnant. One came right out and said that she had noticed my little belly. But she was real sweet about it and she actually only noticed it the day before I told her the news. The other said it was because I seemed to be more conscious about eating healthy. I bet it was really the belly though, and she was just trying to be polite.

Speaking of my belly, I was watching Father of the Bride Part II last night and I was actually getting quite emotional over the fact that I still barely look pregnant. I do have a little belly, for me, but to a stranger, I don't look pregnant at all. In the movie, both women were five months along like me, and they were huge. Of course, it was just a movie, but seriously, I could pass as not pregnant at all - and yet I'm already half way to the end.

I told Nik how sad I was that I wasn't showing more and he got annoyed at me. He said the grass is always greener and that women who are big by now wish that they weren't showing. I guess that's true. But, it really is an amazing experience to be pregnant, and I want to look the way I feel. I'm sure I'll get there eventually, but I wonder just how much longer it will take.

Another three weeks

Unfortunately, I had to reschedule the Big Ultrasound. I am very disappointed and sad, but it had to be done. Nik had a work conflict on April 24th and there was no way of getting around it. Going without my husband for such a huge event in my pregnancy, was not an option.

I was hoping to jump into someone's canceled appointment and actually go this week, but the hospital didn't seem to want to work with me on the whole "if there are cancelations, I'd like an earlier appointment please". They didn't even check for cancelations, they just kept telling me that they are booked.

So, I was stuck moving my date into May and, because of work conflicts, the earliest we can get there is May 7th. That means I have yet another three weeks to wait.

I feel like it's forever three weeks to go. When I was 15 weeks pregnant, I thought I only had three weeks to go because I know that most doctors schedule the appointment at 18 weeks. But, no, my doctor wanted me to go in at 20 weeks.

So, at 17 weeks I thought I'd only have three weeks to go. But, my doctor made me wait until I was 18 weeks to even schedule the appointment. Since the hospital was booked, I couldn't schedule it for two weeks later (when I would be 20 weeks pregnant), I had to schedule it for three weeks later. Another three weeks to wait.

And now, well you know the story by now. Three more weeks. :-(

The countdown begins

My appointment for my next ultrasound is scheduled. This is the BIG ultrasound where I find out the gender of my baby! Well we will find out, as long as my baby shows us the goods, but somehow I doubt I have a shy baby in there.

Unfortunately, the hospital was booked solid for weeks, so the earliest appointment I could get was for April 24th. But, at least now I actually have a date. It's better than the unknown.

So, as of today, I have 18 days to go. Whoooohoooo!!! Now, the only question is, how in the world am I going to be able to wait another 18 days, lol.

Let's play a game

I've been meaning to put belly pictures up here. Now that I'm finally doing it, I thought it might be fun to play a little game.

Below are pictures of me throughout my pregnancy so far. The game is to guess how far along I was at the time the picture was taken. I'll give you multiple choice answers to make it a bit easier. Just comment to this post and give me your answers. Then, I'll post back a few days later and give you the correct answers.

Here is a tip before you begin - keep in mind that it makes a huge difference whether I have a shirt on or not, and it also makes a huge difference in what angle the picture was taken. Ok, so here goes . . .

Answer the following question for each:
